The Soccer Legend George Shaya died early today at his home in Glen Norah, Harare. Popularly known as Mastermind, Shaya turned out for Dynamos during his playing days and is the only player to be named Soccer Star of The Year five times.
Dynamos Football Club tweeted on their official account, ‘ A legend has gone. George ‘ Mastermind’ Shaya has died, at the age of 77. Shaya was Soccer Star of the year in 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977. He was the Dynamos Chairman when we reached the Champions League final in 1998.’
‘ George Shaya played for Dynamos, and was to Zimbabwe what Pele is to Brazil!
His last days reflect what is wrong with our country, failing to look after those who gave so much for our country!
