Legendary drummer and percussionist Sam Mataure has been honoured by Zimbabwe Achievers Awards in partnership with Famous Junction Restaurant for his iconic status and contributions to the entertainment industry.
Mataure is also set to be inducted in the ZAA Hall of Fame which will be a celebration of the often unsung heroes of the Zimbabwean narratives.
Through the goodwill arm of the awards brand ZAA Foundation, plans for a triburay event for Mataure are underway, slated for a time when the situation normalizes.
The initiative is part of a drive to further honor Zimbabwean luminaries in different sectors.
“Sam is arguably one of the finest drummers in Africa and a legend who has given so much to the Zimbabwean arts industry. He did not as for this but ZAA and our partners identified him as one of the many worthy recipients of initiatives that befit his status in the industry and we urge corporates and well-wishers to come on board. We should make sure our legends are comfortable and living well,” said Conrad Mwanza of ZAA.
Mataure received a donation of various goods at Famous Junction over the weekend. The restaurant and ZAA committed to take care of Mataure and see to his welfare on a monthly basis as part of the initiative.
“Sam has sacrificed a lot in terms of sharing his gifts with the world and we are committed to go a small way in recognising his contributions. We shall endeavor to see to her general welfare and contribute towards his medical bills among other needs as may arise because we are celebrating Zimbabwean excellence,” said Bridgette Mudhosi of Famous Junction, speaking on the sidelines of the handover.
Sam Mataure has over four decades in the music and entertainment industry in an illustrious career that has seen him your around the world.
He has performed alongside the likes of the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi whom he also managed at some point, Thomas Mapfumo, Andy Brown, Steve Dyer and various other international acts.
The veteran music promoter remains one of the most respected names in showbiz and an inspiration for upcoming artists.
He suffered a mild stroke in recent times but has since recovered and is working on organizing a number of festivals.
