A man fell into a shaft at a Shamva mine while running away after allegedly stealing 100 kilograms of gold ore.
Aaron Nyamunda appeared before Bindura magistrate Moreblessing Makati facing theft charges and was remanded in custody to April 21.
Prosecutor Sheilla Kudzai Maribha said on Tuesday, Roy Tsiga was patrolling at his mine with his brother Simon when they saw a flicker of light at a disused shaft.
They drew closer and observed two people pulling a sack full of gold ore out of the mine shaft using a windlass.
The duo escaped, Nyamunda fell into a shaft while his accomplice, who is still at large, vanished into the dark.
Nyamunda was rescued from the shaft before he was arrested.
Four bags of gold ore weighing approximately 100kg were recovered some metres away from where the accused were initially spotted.
