A CUNNING 17-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly swindling his peers of US$2 640.
The accused person, a resident of Zimre Park in Ruwa, appeared before Harare Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges.
The State case is that sometime in July this year, the teenage boy posed as a member of the Junior Parliament of Zimbabwe and promised students an opportunity to join the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Junior Parliament Motivators programme.
He charged US$62 each as registration for the dubious SADC programme and a further US$50 for a supposed camping excursion at Domboshava Resort.
It is alleged that soon after receiving the money, the accused person went into hiding. Investigations later led to his arrest.
The total amount prejudiced was US$2 640 and nothing was recovered.
The accused person was released into the custody of his guardian and returns to court on September 5.
