The weekend of September 14th saw a tragic toll on Zimbabwean roads, with six lives lost in two separate fatal accidents.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names and details of the victims, highlighting the devastating impact of these incidents.
The first accident occurred on the Roy-Chiredzi Road, approximately 60 kilometres from Masvingo. A Nissan Serena carrying eight passengers veered off the road and overturned after its rear right tyre burst. The impact of the crash claimed the lives of four people, while four others sustained injuries.
The victims were identified as:
- Siyano Nyamande (40) of Crownhill, Borrowdale;
- Priscilla Musembwa (64) of Cranborne, Harare;
- Memory Kwenda (40) of Dzivarasekwa, Harare;
- and Epson Nyamande (45) of Borrowdale, Harare.
The bodies were taken to Msiso Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital.
The victims were identified as:
- Chigweshe Tendai Amon (52) of Neshena Village, Makoni;
- and Clement Kadungure (53) of Kamba Village, Makoni.
Their bodies were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital.
Adding to the grim statistics, a CAG bus carrying passengers veered off the road and overturned at the 193-kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road on Tuesday morning. The accident left 18 people injured, who were admitted to Karol District Hospital for treatment.
In the wake of these tragic incidents, the ZRP has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads. Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the National Police Spokesperson, reiterated the importance of observing all road rules and regulations to safeguard human lives.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that drivers should observe all road rules and regulations and exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads to safeguard human lives,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
