Don’ts
1. Post a pic with no price no description nothing. When people ask how much you put 30 (30 what? Rand Dollar nothing)…that’s it. Will you get customers?
Or worse ‘Inbox for more info’ why sell your products like you are selling drugs…hiding inbox.
2. Someone asks who sells eg soap and you answer Me or even worse that’s it. No explanation eg where you are your products, how much they are worth, your contact number.
3. ‘I am so sorry my products are a bit expensive’ mmmh you are apologizing for your product…WHY? As a customer I am not buying it…it’s not good enough, is it? That’s what you are conveying.
4. I am selling a ‘No Name’ what’s that? Will customers remember that?
5. When people ask about your product you are either very defensive or even abusive ‘well I didn’t force you to buy’ Really?
6 What happened to…. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT…GOLDEN RULE
7 Non-approachability…
Marketing Must DOs
1. Good descriptions/prices/contact details (including country code on your phone numbers) with every product you post.
Don’t wait for your customers to ask, most don’t and it’s your loss.
2. People buy from people…not just products (food for thought ). Introduce yourself, state your full name. Don’t post the same monotonous advert to the same audience daily. Be creative. Share product knowledge.
3. Be professional, dress well. Yes check yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, ‘Would I buy from me?’
4. Address people well eg don’t call your customer dear, love, darling… that’s not professional, too personal… it’s wrong. Call them sir/madam or respectfully use their names if you know them.
5. Use good English there is no excuse for this. Never use slang eg buh mie y etc (no excuse that these are common words).
6. Know your products. Or find the information for your customers. Go that extra mile.
7. Your passion for your product/business will get you, customers.
8. Make your customer feel important.
9. Offer incentives e.g hairdressers 10% off for first time customers, introduce a new customer, and get 10% off your next appointment.
Handbag set ‘this handbag is $25, I will throw in a pair of glasses for you.’
10. USP Unique Selling Point
What’s special about your product? eg there are 20 other ladies selling the same handbag WHY should I buy yours?
11. Use as many marketing platforms as you can. There are many free platforms you can utilize (gone are the days when people used Facebook for gossip… people are making millions on Facebook jump on it).
If you are making $10 today aim to make $20 tomorrow. Grow your business and expand it.
