Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) says they believe that consistency matters. We believe that every Zimbabwean in our nation is equal wherever he/she is. We are all children of Zimbabwe and no one is superior to the other. The government should lead in ensuring equality of all Zimbabweans in line with section 56 of the constitution of Zimbabwe.
Every civil servant that is either a soldier, doctor, teacher etc is providing an essential service to the nation. No one is more important than the other. Without a Teacher, we wouldn’t have the knowledge, without Doctors our health will be at risk and without soldiers our security will be at risk. It is rather unfortunate that the government of the day is not sincere in resolving the civil service salary crisis.
As LEAD, we are perplexed by the inconsistencies being exhibited by the government and the ingenuine stance to have a lasting solution to the salary crisis in Zimbabwe. If Doctors were given residential stands and motor vehicles why aren’t the same opportunities not availed to fellow civil servants. Aren’t they working for the same Government? Are other civil servants more important than others? Teachers deserve dignity and decent salaries that can sustain livelihoods. Moreover, they are the ones who make doctors and all other professions. They are the most important in the system as they hold the key to success of our nation.
It is time that government stops putting lipstick on a pigs nose and use the resources available to ensure that all civil servants have decent remuneration. As a Pan Afrikanist Labour movement, we stand firmly in solidarity with civil servants and we will continue imploring the government to be reasonable and award all civil servants decent salaries and decent pensions for all war veterans and pensioners.
We demand Labour justice. Every Zimbabwean should be treated the same. Noone is more Zimbabwean than the other.
