MARUMO Gallants goalkeeper, Washington Arubi says he is looking forward to representing the senior men’s national soccer team, The Warriors, in the coming two 2025 AFCON Qualifiers games against Kenya and Cameroon.
The 39-year-old was drafted in the Warriors squad by new coach Michael Nees, who was appointed in July.
Arubi was last drafted in the Warriors squad last year by Brazilian gaffer Baltermir Brito, who was serving on an interim basis.
Reacting to his return in the Warriors fold, the former Highlanders and Dynamos goalie revealed that he is eager to prove his mantle.
“First of all I want to thank the man above, God, for giving me another opportunity and its always an honour to receive a call up to represent your country.
“I’m looking forward to the two big games that we are facing and I’m determined to help my country achieve the desired results,” Arubi told NewZimbabwe.com
With his experience which has seen him surviving in the South African topflight league for more than 10 years, Arubi might be the answer to the ongoing Warriors goalkeeping crisis which was witnessed in June when Zimbabwe played in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa.
Arubi boasts of 13 caps in the Warriors colours and he is the most senior player in Michael Nees’ squad.
